In the heart of the mesmerizing rolling hills, lived a boy named Shepherd. His life was untarnished, simple, and honest. His only responsibility was to care for his flock of rams.

Their low murmuring and the whispering of the wind across the single tree on the mountaintop were his only associates. Day after day, guarding his wards instilled in him a notion of quiet fulfillment.

However, there were at times moments of loneliness, when the shepherd boy would pine for companionship. During one such occasion because of sheer tedium, the shepherd boy devised a troublesome scheme.

Stories of wild beasts preying on sheep had been around for a while in the town. So, the boy chose to exploit this fear and played a joke on the townsfolk.

One afternoon he raced into the village shouting “Wolf! A wolf is preying on my sheep!” The frightened villagers rushed up the hills to help but discovered no wolf.

The boy chuckled at the dilemma on their faces. This prank continued here for a few days more. Yet, one day, a real wolf did charge at the flock. The shepherd boy raced for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one came.

Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his sheep. Heartbroken, he went back to the village only to receive a reprimand on honesty and the consequences of dishonesty.

His tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the significance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the dangers of crying wolf. Moreover, it stresses how trust once broken, is tough to regain. It's a story as pertinent today as it was in the past.
